Hi everyone! So, as you've probably gathered by now -- I have arrived relatively safely to South Korea. :)
Before I fill you in on anything, I just want to tell you my rules for this blog.
1) Don't mention my last name anywhere on this blog. First name is fine, but there's some weirdos out there and I don't want them or anyone here in Korea seeing this.
2) I won't be posting my exact address on here because any rando can get on here so if you would like my address either email me, message me on facebook, or ask my parents! (Care packages both accepted and appreciated :))) )
Okay, so this whole process has been really crazy from the start so I'll start at the beginning. From the time I was hired to the time I was in Korea was about a month (including the interview process) so this whole process has been really fast.
I'll spare you the details on all of the paperwork I had to do to get here but basically the mean lady at the Korean consulate office in Chicago would not give me a straight answer on anything which meant that I had no idea when my visa would be completed which also meant that I could not confidently book my plane ticket here. There were a lot of issues there so I had to get a family friend (thanks, Deb!!!!!) to pick it up and bring it to me personally. I got the visa in my hand on Saturday night and I flew out on Sunday morning.
Since my family was planning their annual trip down to Florida, I decided to go with them and bring all of my stuff for Korea rather than saying goodbye to them a week earlier than I had to, but this also meant a week less of prep time on my part. So, we packed up all 3 of my bags on the back of the car and we got going. Well, little did we know that my stuff was too close to the exhaust so when we took our pit stop in Atlanta, I discovered that there was a giant hole in one of my suitcases. And we are not talking something that you can cover in some duct tape and call a day -- I could see into my suitcase and see some of my items inside, charred.
So basically, that happened.
My dad went out and got me another suitcase which happened to be bigger than the one I had before but it added a lot A LOT of stress.
Basically, I got to spend a week with my family in Florida which was really nice, but I had to fly back up to Atlanta before I could leave the country because I left all of my bags with the Barnes (shout out to the lovely Barnes family for not only letting me leave my stuff with them but also picking me up from the airport and taking me back to the airport later that day and seeing me off :)))) ).
I had to say goodbye to my family in Tampa which really sucked, but they were really supportive about everything? No, there's no silverlining, it just plain sucked.
So that was the process of getting to the airport.
