4th of July Weekend in Korea
It's been such a good "first" weekend here in Korea! I had to work last Saturday (it's a long story) so this was my first full weekend here, and it did not disappoint. Friday night I went shopping with one of my coworkers in a place called Bupyeong in their underground shopping tunnels and it was crazy. I couldn't get any pictures because it was wall-to-wall people but it was intense! There were a ton of little shops everywhere with good, cheap clothing and I got some cute stuff. Some shirts, sparkly earrings, and sandals.
On Saturday I did some grocery shopping and let me tell you, it was intense. The grocery store is 4 stories here and there are little old ladies everywhere trying to get you to try their stuff (like in Costco) but they are screaming at you while you walk by (unlike Costco). If you haven't been yelled at my dozens of old Korean ladies then you have truly missed out. They are aggressive. And yes, there is Hello Kitty everything. I mean everything.
And since Saturday was the 4th of July, I went out with my coworkers a bit. First, there was a foreigner party in a local park so I went there and met up with some local foreigners. Some American, but mostly non-Americans. Some Aussies, Koreans, Brits, Scots, and Nigerians, so it was pretty fun. **Fun fact: In Korean public restrooms, they have the toilet paper dispenser outside of the stall on the wall like a paper towel dispenser and there is only one and you must grab however much toilet paper you think you'll need before going into the stall. So bizarre.
After that party, my coworker and I went to a place called Itaewon which is like the foreigner area of Seoul. We found the LGBT/Red Light district right away which was interesting to say the least. I have never seen so many foreigners in one place in Korea! It was crazy.
And after that, I came home and did a face mask. In Korea, this things are really big right now. Basically it's a cloth that is dripping with whatever it is you bought (mine was ~Calming~ so it was Aloe and mint) and you stick it on your face. Good news: it's super refreshing and makes your skin really soft. Bad news: You look like Hannibal Lecter when wearing it.
I could hear fireworks all over the city and there were American Soldiers out everywhere; it was a really fun night!
