Plum Wine and Film Festivals

What a crazy few weeks it has been here in Korea! So, this post is going to be a little picture heavy.

Here's the place were I go to eat sometimes. Katie will recognize it as the place my My Lovable Girl which it totally is and I die every time I see it.

I also got to go to Costco in Korea and this was the beautiful view. I think it was a sign that I was always meant to shop at Costco.

This is what I frequently see on my walks home.

Here's the elevator and door to my apartment. The reason I took a pic of this is because I thought it was just something on the internet that Koreans don't put the number 4 on their buildings because it is bad luck, but it is totally true! They just put "F" instead. So weird. And, this is my door. As you can see, there is no key. I have to slide the panel up and then I put in my code and it unlocks for me. As soon as I shut the door, the automatic door locks itself within 3 seconds (and that is my doorbell on the left).

Here are a few of my kids when we went on a field trip to a Korean farm to pick potatoes. When you're city kids, this is big fun and I have to say, I've never been to a Korean farm before. Interesting. You know what was not interesting?? THE GIANT BUGS THAT WOULD COME OUT OF THE GROUND WHEN YOU PICKED THE POTATOES. The Korean staff thought it was hilarious and were laughing at me but for real, the crickets that came out of every portal to hell that was opened when you plucked the potatoes out of the ground were about the length of my palm and I do not mess with that kind of stuff.

Here is a traditional Hanbok store I pass around my work. (Hanbok is traditional Korean clothing. Before you ask, Kimono is Japanese and as a reminder, those two countries do not like each other at all.)

Here is one of the things we had for lunch this week. I forget the Korean name (oops) but this is a special meal that Koreans eat on the first day of summer. I don't really understand why, because this was served hot and it was super super hot already because of the whole being the first day of summer thing, but it was good. Yes, it was cooked. Each of us got a whole chicken to eat! And in the inside, they scooped everything out and put rice and dates. Yay for summertime food?

Ran into some Korean soldiers on the way home and by "some" I mean an entire bus full.

Tonight I got to go to the Bucheon International Film Festival and it was so fun! Here's me being candid in front of the outdoor activities and the blurry pic of the schedule and the pamphlet.

Apparently Kim Woo Bin came here last year, Kayleigh. Snooze you lose I suppose.

A Korean celebrity showed up to the premiere of one of the movies and the crowd was insane. Turns out they were coming for the movie my friend and I saw and they did a Q & A afterwards and sat in the audience with us while we watched the movie. Talk about an eventful night.

After the film, during the Q&A portion, they asked if anyone needed an English translator. We obviously did, so my friend and I went up the front and we were the only people to take them up on the offer so we sat with them and had our own private translator for the movie! So fun.

Ps- the movie was called The Boy from Wonderland and it was the sweetest, saddest, scariest movie I have ever seen. I highly recommend it.

We ended the night with some fried chicken and meeting these two cuties. Between them, they probably knew about 5 English words but the most important thing was that they weren't shy and we actually had a great time with them. The kids here will openly tell you that they have never seen foreigners before and ask you all kinds of questions, so it's really fun and cute.

Gotten to do lots of fun stuff these last few weeks, but I will try to keep you guys updated :)
